VTT, the Technical Research Centre of Finland, is the biggest multitechnological applied research organization in Northern Europe. VTT produces research, development, testing and information services to public sector and companies as well as international organizations. With its staff of 3160 experts and turnover 292 M€ (in 2010) VTT provides high-end technology solutions and innovation services. From its wide knowledge base, VTT can combine different technologies, create new innovations and offer a substantial range of world class technologies and research services. VTT has participated in more than 1000 European R&D Framework Programme projects. Currently, VTT is coordinating 42 projects. VTT has been granted ISO 9001:2000 certification.
The core competencies of Risk and reliability management (40 researchers) are integrated risk and safety management and techno-economic risk management. VTT has recently extensively studied risk analysis end security innovations in border control (e.g. Effisec, TALOS, SUPPORT).
The main topics of the Software Platforms include wireless communication and sensors, device interoperability, reliability and usability, and networked control systems. Current focus is on software complexity due to the constant increase in product functionality, smart networking, amount of data and services needed.
